Open Tools → AutoCorrect → AutoCorrect Options. In the AutoCorrect window, click the AutoFormat as you type tab. To enable AutoFormat, follow the steps below. If typing three characters and pressing Enter does not change into a line, AutoFormat is likely not enabled. Tripple line - Type three pounds (#) and press Enter. In Word 2010, click the File tab, click Options (under Help) and then click Proofing in the left pane. You have now successfully inserted a Horizontal line into your Microsoft Word Document.
